Calling all quidditch players! These golden snitches are one of my favorite things that I've made so far as part of my Harry Potter Halloween series. They're so simple to make, but they turn out so pretty and elegant! Golden snitches are obviously important to Harry in the book - they represent a new (and previously unknown) talent, a way to make friends and feel accepted, and a chance to excel and be admired after a life of feeling unwanted and ignored. From the moment Harry is introduced to the snitch, he's hooked.
Compared with the Quaffle and the Bludgers, it was tiny, about the size of a large walnut. It was bright gold and had little fluttering silver wings. "This," said Wood, "is the Golden Snitch, and it's the most important ball of the lot. It's very hard to catch because it's so fast and difficult to see."

As much as I wish I could have a "real" snitch that my kids could chase around the house, these candy snitches are a pretty good substitute. They're very quick and easy to make, using Ferrero Rocher candies, gold glitter card stock, and tape. They're pretty self explanatory to make, but I wanted to share my process just in case you need a little inspiration.

I started by having my kids remove the stickers from the top of the Ferrero Rocher balls. Ours peeled off pretty easily without leaving any scraps behind. I left the candies in the little paper cups they come in, so they would sit upright instead of rolling away on the tray. Next, we cut out a wing shape from a piece of leftover cardboard, making sure it was sized correctly for the candy balls. We traced the wing shape onto the back of a piece of gold glitter card stock, making sure to flip it for half of the wings so both wings for each candy would have the glitter on the front. I found my glitter card stock at Michaels next to the regular card stock, and I've also seen it JoAnn Fabrics. To finish the snitches, we just taped the wings onto the back of the balls using gold washi tape. If you don't have washi tape on hand, scotch tape or masking tape will work just fine.

These sweet and adorable golden snitches are the perfect way to add a little sparkle to your party, with almost zero effort! They'll disappear so fast you'll think they've flown away. :)
